‘West must win Iran confidence’

Speaking to reporters upon arrival from an official visit to China and Russia, Baqeri stressed the world’s six major powers’ (P5+1) acknowledgement of Iran’s right to use nuclear energy for peaceful objectives in line with the nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), IRIB reported.

He said during his talks with senior officials of Russia and China, as two permanent members of the UN Security Council, they discussed “serious and important” topics about negotiations between Iran and the P5+1 as well as bilateral issues.

The SNSC official noted that Iran and the P5+1 group of countries comprising the US, UK, France, China, Russia plus Germany would set the framework for the future talks before their upcoming meeting in the Iraqi capital of Baghdad.

Iran and the P5+1 will hold the second round of multifaceted talks in Baghdad on May 23 after they resumed fresh negotiations in the Turkish city of Istanbul on April 14.

Both sides hailed the Istanbul talks as successful and constructive.

Tehran and the P5+1 held two rounds of talks in the past, one in Geneva in December 2010 and another again in Istanbul in January 2011.
