WH Press Sec: Trump Learned A Lot Watching TV at Black History Museum

White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer was questioned about Donald Trump’s visit to the National Museum of African American History and Culture by a reporter and inadvertently admitted that Trump learned about black history by watching TV during the visit.

Trump’s affinity for watching copious amounts of television has been documented through leaks coming from anonymous sources at the White House, so it may come as no surprise that during a tour of a historical museum, Trump would find a TV to watch.

Spicer said that Trump “paused for a while” in front of the “big jumbo-tron” at the beginning of the exhibits. He went on to describe watching the giant screen broadcast a speech by Congressman John Lewis “for a while”.

The interesting part about Spicer’s explanation of Trump’s visit to the museum is that the only other experience he could recall was the exhibit displaying memorabilia of Ben Carson, the new head of HUD.

Spicer said: “I mean when you walk through that museum and you see all of the elements of our history, and you walk up to this one glass exhibit that is Dr. Carson’s scrubs and pictures of him. And [for the president] to experience that with [Carson] and his wife for the first time, you realize that is for any American to be part of the Smithsonian.”

The obviousness of Spicer’s segway to Trump’s pride for Carson’s “accomplishments” is telling when the original question asked of the press secretary was about whether or not Trump visited the exhibit on African slavery.

But this is just an extension of the problem Trump has with convincing the public that he does not support racism.

Earlier in the day, Trump made a public condemnation of a recent rash of bomb threats made to Jewish day cares and places of worship.

Trump said after touring the National Museum of African American Museum and Culture: “The anti-Semitic threats targeting our Jewish community, and community centers are horrible. And are painful. And a very sad reminder of the work that still must be done to root out hate, and prejudice, and evil.”

And while those statements are all well and good, just a few days before Trump told a Hasidic Jewish reporter to “sit down” and be quiet while the journalist was asking about the 86 bomb threats and increase in hate crimes within the scope of Trump taking office that were previously ignored.

Jake Turx, reporter with Ami Magazine asked: “What we are concerned about, and what we haven’t really heard being addressed, is an uptick in anti-Semitism and how the government is planning to take care of it.”

Turx was interrupted by Trump who said: “See, he said he was going to ask a very simple, easy question, and it’s not.”

Trump continued: “Not a simple question. Not a fair question. OK, sit down. I understand the rest of your question. So here’s the story folks. No. 1, I am the least anti-Semitic person that you’ve ever seen in your entire life. No. 2, racism. The least racist person. In fact, we did very well relative to other people running as a Republican.”

As Turx tried to interject, Trump told the reporter: “Quiet, quiet, quiet. See he lied about — he was going to get up and ask a very straight, simple question. So, you know, welcome to the world of the media.”

In effect, the condemnations of the Jewish bomb threats Trump made nearly 5 days later appear to be a political stunt to offset the obvious racism of his encounter with Turx and the question of rising anti-Semitism since January 20th.
