Why Does the FDA Have a Problem with the Term Non-GMO?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) recently released recommendations for new voluntary labeling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) added to food as ingredients.

The agency denied petitions inquiring that labeling of GM salmon, which was approved this week.

As far as the FDA is concerned, mandatory disclosure of GM ingredients is not an issue, and the agency is not changing their stance despite intense pressure from the public.

For example, the FDA understands GMO to be broadly used and an “inaccurate meaning applied to food products.”

The agency prefers the term “non-bioengineered” or “non-genetically engineered”, and has determined that GMO additives are not materially different from their natural counterparts.

This argument over the labeling of GMOs is a manufactured battle created by the Bio Tech Industry (BTI).

BIO has invested more than $6 million to bribe Capitol Hill into supporting their efforts.

Previously food manufacturers stated that they will give in to labeling GMO if they can voluntarily participate in the rule.

These corporations are currently lobbying Congress to “pass legislation that would require the FDA to create guidelines for the new labels, which food manufacturers could use.”

These processed foods giants are proposing a “voluntary labeling of genetically modified foods” in an attempt to preempt the possibility that more states will consider legislation to make this practice law.

The groups involved in this offering include:

• National Corn Growers Association
• National Restaurant Association
• National Beverage Association

In 2001, the FDA drafted an industry guide on voluntary labeling of GMO ingredients in consumer products.

The Grocery Manufacturers Association (GMA) are moving to support a voluntary labeling policy which would preempt “any state labeling laws that are not identical to the federal program.”

Another aspect of the swindle is state legislation being passed that claim to mandate labeling GMOs.
