YPG blasts Russia for approving Turkish air force raids against Kurds in Syria’s Afrin

nsnbc : The Syrian – Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG) have blasted Russia for allowing Turkey to use its air forces in Afrin, thus facilitating The Turkish military’s and allied Islamist militia’s attacks on SDF and YPG fighters and the onslaught on civilians that according to official Syrian sources has resulted in the death or injury of about 900 civilians.

The YPG, on March 7, stressed that the Turkish state and state-sponsored terrorist factions have now been waging war against the Syrian – Kurdish enclave of Afrin for 47 days, using all sorts of weapons and troops. The YPG stressed that “everyone knows that Afrin’s sky was protected by the Russian Federation air forces”, and that “hadn’t Russia given its approval, the Turkish air forces would not be able to penetrate the Syrian space and carry out air strikes and aggression”.

The YPG General Command also stressed that “It is clear now that the Russian Federation is complicit with the Turkish state” by opening the air space for Turkey “and allowing her to commit massacre against the civilians in Afrin”. Afrin is located at the suburbs of the Syrian city of Aleppo and Russia has previously exercised full and unchallenged control over that air space.

The YPG General Command also accused the Russian Federation of attempting to blackmail the People’s Protection Units (YPG) saying “The Russian complicity came after many failed attempts by the Russians to extort from the YPG and the political administration in Afrin, and to impose private Russian agendas which have no benefits for the Syrian people”.

The YPG directly holds the Russian Federation accountable for its agreement with the Turkish state and for allowing Turkey to carry out ethnic cleansing and the forced displacement of people from Afrin. “It is obvious now that the Russian Federation is a partner with the Turkish state in shedding the blood of innocent Kurdish people”, concluded the YPG.

The YPG general Command also called on the Russian Federation to undo its decision of allowing Turkey’s invasion of Afrin and to stop participating in killing the people in Afrin while destroying homes and entire villages. The YPG also called on the Russian people to put pressure on their government to prevent it from proceeding with this scheme.

Meanwhile, the inhabitants of Afrin and the civilian administration there have urged the United Nations and all countries in the world to put an end to the Turkish regime’s assault and massacres against civilians. The Afrin political administration stressed that the massacres and attacks could not continue without permanent members of the UN Security Council (UNSC) to give their green light to allow terrorist organizations to continue their onslaught despite UNSC Resolution 2401, demanding a 30-day cessation of combat activities.

The Syrian state news agency SANA reported on March 8 that up to 900 civilians had been killed or injured as a result of Turkey’s assault on Afrin. Among the targets that reportedly were attacked are vital infrastructure including schools, water and power plants, communication towers, telephone networks and health centers. Since the beginning of the Turkish aggression on Afrin on January 20, more than 20 bakeries and several water and power plants have been destroyed, in addition to the demolition of hundreds of houses and the displacement of thousands of citizens.

Moreover, the Turkish forces targeted a convoy loaded with humanitarian aid, foodstuffs and relief materials on the way to Afrin area on February 22nd, 2018 and continued shelling of Aleppo-Afrin highway to prevent the delivery of assistance materials. Afrin Hospital could not escape the Turkish bombardment of the city with its Director Khalil Sabri saying that there has been a remarkable increase in the number of martyrs and the injured people over the past few days as the Turkish forces escalated their offensive on the towns and villages in the area, estimating the number of martyrs since the beginning of the aggression at 218 civilians, in addition to 651 injured ones.
