Zarif: Abundant capacities available for Iran-Japan cooperation

Tehran, July 19, IRNA – Foreign Minister Mohammad-Javad Zarif said on Sunday that Japan is one of Iran’s close friends and there are abundant capacities for economic cooperation.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Japanese Parliamentary Vice-Minister of Defense, Masahisa Sato.

Zarif said, ‘In our opinion Japan attaches high importance to stability, peace and security of the region.’

Referring to failed coup d’etat in Turkey, Zarif said, ‘I was the first foreign minister to condemn the coup attempt and I have been in contact with my Turkish counterpart in the deadly night in Turkey. Peace and stability in Turkey, as one of our neighbors, is of high significance. Your government is well aware of the stances of the Islamic Republic of Iran.’

‘Campaign against terrorism is of high significance for Iran and we were also saddened by the cold-blood terrorist operation in Niece of France.’

The Iranian Foreign Minister said such inhumane measures in any form and anywhere are strongly condemned by Tehran.

‘Fortunately, today all are in consensus with Iran and that Iran is on frontline of campaign against terrorism in the region.’

Referring to Iran’s economic indices, including natural facilities, talented and efficient workforce, energy resources, exceptional security, big domestic market and extensive markets around, Zarif said the ground is prepared for joint venture investment with the Japanese companies in Iran.

Sato for his part said Japan is eager to increase cooperation with the Islamic Republic of Iran.

He pointed to endorsement of approval at Japanese House of Representatives for Iran-Japan investment and said, ‘That time I was present at the House of Representatives and supported endorsement of the agreement. I hope the agreement will soon be passed in Iranian Majlis as well, so that the ground would be prepared for further expansion of bilateral economic cooperation.’

He said since the beginning, Japanese government supported the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and extended a credit line to pave the way for growing investment in Iran.

He hoped that the credit line will soon be in force. ‘The Islamic Republic of Iran and Japan share extensive grounds including campaign against terrorism for cooperation and they will strive for deepening cooperation in order to provide stronger stability and security in the region.’

Sato said Iranian and Japanese stances on such issues as recent events in Turkey and France and other regional issues root in many common grounds.
