School where the harassment took place |
(Scroll down for video) Eight school girls were arrested and charged with bullying, according to reports.
The eight high school students who have been arrested and charged with criminal harassment followed a police investigation into a case of bullying at a school in southwestern Ontario, Canada.
Police in London, Ontario, said their investigation revealed that a student at London South Collegiate Institute had been abused physically, emotionally and cyber bullied.
All eight students are female. They have been released from police custody on a promise to appear in court. Police said additional charges may be filed.
An official of the Thames Valley District School Board said the eight suspects were suspended earlier
this week, and may be expelled when the school finishes its own investigation into the allegations.
Bill Tucker, director of the board of education, said the school and police were informed of the abuse last week after receiving more than half a dozen tips from students, staff and community members.
Many of the tips had come in anonymously from the school website.
Tucker said that as a result, the school immediately took quick action to monitor the safety of the alleged victim.
