United Hatzalah volunteers |
A Hatzalah volunteer was extremely traumatized after arriving at an accident scene to see his little daughter among the accident victims, according to reports.
A volunteer of United Hatzalah of Netivot, Israel, Avishalom Yankovitch received a call on Wednesday afternoon reporting a car accident.
He immediately left his work, picked up his rescue team and was on his way to the scene. When approaching the scene, he saw what he expected to see. He left his car and started drilling the damaged vehicle. He looked around to evaluate the situation. He tried to evaluate the severity of the injuries, when his eyes fell on the body of a little girl. She looked familiar. He had to take a closer look to confirm what he did not want to believe.
The small injured body was Shulamit, his 8-year-old daughter, the youngest child of his family.
Then Yankovitch was accompanied by other local members of United Hatzalah. He did not even have to talk. His fellow emergency workers understood him without a word. United Hatzalah founder Eli Beer commented: “While our volunteers always give 100 percent to anyone in need, whether jumping out of bed in the middle of the night or climbing five flights of stairs to get to an old woman with heart problems. When a member of the family is in need we realize how precious and delicate each life really is.”
The girl was then evacuated by ambulance to Soroka Medical Center in Beersheva, in critical condition. And while the situation could not be more heartbreaking at least his dad was next to her. He reached his suffering daughter just a few minutes after the accident.
The story does not end here. On his way home from the hospital to retrieve some personal items,
Yankovitch’s pager alerted him of an adult male who fell unconscious. Forgetting his personal medical concerns, he turned on his lights and sirens and ran to the scene.
Yankovitch along with other doctors had initiated a full resuscitation process. It was a battle, but they managed to return the pulse of the relatively young man.
Within a short period of time he even began returning to consciousness and breathing on his own. A strange sense of calm prevailed when realizing his good fortune. His daughter was alive and has her father with her.
