Estelle ship to Gaza |
No humanitarian aid was found on the latest ship heading to Gaza, according to reports.
The Israeli army confirmed that there was no humanitarian aid on the ship Estelle. The ship tried to break Israel’s naval blockade on Gaza over the weekend.
Earlier on Saturday, Israeli troops boarded the ship, which was carrying 17 passengers, including five parliamentarians from Europe and a former Canadian legislator. The Israeli army said the ship was seized only after numerous calls to passengers on board went unanswered.
After peacefully taking control of the ship, it was taken to the port of Ashdod, where it was inspected by Israeli officials. After the search no humanitarian aid to the people of Gaza has been
found on board. The passengers claimed to have been carrying humanitarian aid for Palestinians in Gaza.
Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu on Saturday praised the IDF for the Estelle interception and said: “Even the people who were on the boat know there is no humanitarian crisis in Gaza. Their goal was to create a provocation and humiliate Israel.”
He added: “If human rights are very important to these activists, they should sail to Syria. We will continue cracking down on ships and we are determined to defend our borders.”
