Police said the two wanted her BMX bike parts.
Two brothers, aged 15 and 17, are accused of murdering the 12-year-old New Jersey girl who was missing and was later found stuffed into a recycling bin, Gloucester County Prosecutor Sean Dalton, said.
Autumn Pasquale, of Clayton, was lured to the house by the children, where police found her belongings, Dalton said, and she seems to have died by strangulation. There were no signs of sexual assault.
The mother of the boys charged with murder played a role in cracking the case, coming forward with information about a publication on her child’s Facebook account, leading police to the boys.
Pasquale’s body was found at 10 pm on Monday in the trash a few blocks from her home and near Borough Hall, where thousands of people gathered in the early evening for a candlelight vigil to pray tearfully for her safe return.
Dalton said Clayton is a safe community, but parents should continue to keep close watch on their children.
