Sudan weapons factory on fire

Israel reportedly launched an attack against Sudan today, killing at least 2, according to reports.

Sudan on Wednesday accused Israel of carrying out an air strike against a large weapons factory in Khartoum, the capital, which killed two people, but the Defense Ministry of Israel and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs declined to comment.

Sudan, which analysts say is used as a route for smuggling weapons into the Gaza Strip controlled by Hamas through neighboring Egypt, has blamed Israel for the attacks in the past, but Israel always refused to comment or said they did not admit or deny any involvement.

A large fire broke out Tuesday night at the Yarmuk arms factory in the south of Khartoum, which was rocked by several explosions, witnesses said. Firefighters took more than two hours to extinguish the fire in the main factory in Sudan and small arms ammunition.

“Four military planes attacked the Yarmouk plant. We believe that Israel is behind this,” Information Minister Osman Ahmed Belal told reporters, adding that the aircraft had appeared to approach the site from the east.

“Sudan reserves the right to strike back at Israel,” he added, saying that two people had died and

that the plant had been partially destroyed.

The governor of Khartoum had initially dismissed the external reasons for the explosion, but after officials showed journalists a video from the site.

A huge crater could be seen next to two buildings destroyed and what appeared to be a rocket on the floor.

Osman said the analysis of remains of rockets and other materials in the field has shown that Israel was behind the attack.
