(Scroll down for video) Europe ruled that Britain must allow its prisoners to vote, according to reports.
The Prime Minister of Britain however vowed to oppose the ruling of the European Court of Human Rights, even though Britain has an obligation to lift prisoner voting restrictions within weeks.
To gain extra legitimacy, Cameron is likely to call another vote on the issue in parliament, 18 months after deputies last decided in favor of maintaining the 140-year-old ban on prisoner voting.
“Nobody should be under any doubt, the prisoners will not be receiving the right to vote from this
government,” he told the House of Commons yesterday.
Cameron has previously said that the idea of giving prisoners the vote makes him feel physically sick.
But despite his tough talk, sources suggested the Prime Minister continues to seek ways to avoid open conflict with the European Court of Human Rights.
Whitehall officials last night could not explain exactly how Britain could manage to keep the ban and appease the European courts, but it is understood ministers are considering a compromise.
