A man was caught trying to smuggle military equipment into Israel, according to news media reports.

A Mexican tourist was arrested at Ben Gurion airport in Tel Aviv. Security officials discovered that the man carried three suitcases full of unmanned aircraft parts.

An Israeli newspaper reported that a Mexican tourist has been detained for questioning at Ben Gurion airport after the parts found in his luggage and were identified as belonging to drones. The man claims he brought the aircraft parts with him in order to have them repaired, while in Israel.

The parts consisted of engines, wings, professional cameras and sophisticated drones with a range of tens of kilometers, according to investigators.

It was also reported that the tourist had to meet an Israeli contact at the airport. Police are investigating the identity of that person. Police are also looking into why El Al security did not discover the drone parts before the man boarded the flight to Israel.

Due to the current security situation in Israel, under certain conditions, El Al will allow passengers to change their travel plans to and from Israel.
