White House turkey |
The U.S. tradition on Thanksgiving Day is that the president pardons the turkey, but Obama has decided to change things around a bit, according to the White House facebook page.
Election Day has come and gone, but U.S. citizens have a more important decision to make: What bird will be named the 2012 National Thanksgiving Turkey?
President Obama today continues the tradition of the White House to pardon a Thanksgiving turkey and its alternative. But, for the first time, the White House is letting the public decide which turkey will be the main attraction.
The White House is encouraging people to go to its facebook page to vote for their favorite
turkey, Gobbler or Cobbler, by liking and sharing their selection.
“Born on the same day on a farm in Rockingham County, Virginia, Cobbler and Gobbler may look alike, but they are no birds of a feather,” the White House wrote on its blog. “Cobbler longs blueberries, is known for its mainstay and enjoys the musical stylings of Carly Simon. Gobbler, a lazy bird but proud, loves corn snacks and enjoys all the music on a violin.”
The winner will be announced at the ceremony of pardoning at 2 pm New York time.
