McDonald’s halal location

A group of Muslims filed a lawsuit against McDonald’s after it fraudulently claimed to be prepared according to halal, according to court proceedings in Detroit Michigan.

Now, McDonald’s and one of its franchise owners agreed to pay $700,000 to members of the Muslim community in order to resolve the allegations that a restaurant in the Detroit area falsely advertised their food as prepared according to Islamic dietary laws.

McDonald’s and Finley Administration Co. agreed Friday to the tentative agreement. The money will

be shared by Dearborn Heights resident Ahmed Ahmed, a health center in Detroit, the Arab American National Museum in Dearborn and lawyers.

The lawsuit alleged that Ahmed bought a chicken sandwich in September 2011, in a Dearborn McDonald’s location, but found that it was not halal, meaning it did not meet Islamic requirements for food preparation.

“You just cannot play with the Muslim religion, as Muslims are very religious,” a Detroit Muslim resident told news reporters.
