Muna Fajady with her son Michael showing off the swastika tattoo |
A child has received a Nazi swastika tattoo while under the care of a government agency, according to press reports in New Zealand.
A Wellington woman was horrified after her 13-year-old son had a swastika tattooed on his body while in the care of Child, Youth and Family or CYF.
Single mom Muna Fajady, said that she wants answers, not excuses, as to how a teenager can be marked with a Nazi symbol, while in state care and warned others that it can happen to their children.
Fajady, who came from Iran in 2003, lost custody of her son Michael in September of last year until he was returned this week.
While in a group home in Porirua, he had asked for a Christian cross, but received a five centimeters square swastika symbol on the back, by another child in the home, while the caretaker was out.
“They put a Nazi tattoo on his back. Why did that happen to my son?”
Fajady also said that Michael was taught to smoke by other children and was also offered alcohol.
CYF regional center director Tania Harris confirmed that unfortunately, another teenager had given Michael the tattoo.
CYF would pay for its removal.
The family provided good supervision of the young people, she said.
“No one likes what happened and we would have liked this teenager to act differently.
Unfortunately, young people sometimes make spontaneous decisions that are not very smart,” she added.
