Chicago Mayor Rahm Emanuel, who was the former Obama administration chief of staff, has been conducting a series of gun control measures, including ordering TD Bank to stop lending money to gun manufacturer Smith & Wesson.

“TD Bank is currently supporting the firearm manufacturing industry through a line of $60 million revolving credit facility with Smith & Wesson, a weapons manufacturer that produces the AR-15, an assault weapon that was used by James Holmes to kill 12 people and wound

58 in a crowded movie theater in Aurora,” Emanuel’s letter to TD Bank CEO, Bharat Masrani, states.

“I asked them to use their influence to pressure the company to find common ground with the vast majority of Americans who support a ban on weapons, ammunition and want background checks,” Emanuel said.

Gun control is a hot topic in the U.S. Congress, as Obama has promised a campaign against gun violence, including an assault rifle ban and a limit to the size of the magazine, following a series of high profile shootings in the U.S.
