6 Capitol police officers suspended for involvement in Capitol riots

Six U.S. Capitol Police (USCP)
officers have been suspended with pay and 29 others remain under investigation
for their roles during the Capitol riots on January 6.

“Acting Chief Yogananda Pittman has
directed that any member of her department whose behavior is not in keeping
with the Department’s Rules of Conduct will face appropriate discipline,”
Capitol Police spokesman John Stolnis said in a recent statement.

According to police officials,
thirty-five Capitol police officers are currently under investigation by the
USCP’s Office of Professional Responsibility with six of them under suspension
with pay for their actions during the Capitol riots. Last month, only 10
officers
were reportedly under investigation with two others suspended.

Rep. Tim Ryan, Chairman of the Legislative
Branch Subcommittee
which oversees the Capitol police, told reporters that
one of the suspended cops took a selfie with members of the mob. Ryan also
noted that another officer had been suspended for wearing a MAGA hat and
appearing to direct people inside the Capitol after they had stormed the
building.

At least three police officers from
other departments face criminal charges for participating off-duty in the
Capitol riots on January 6. Seven other cops from across the nation are also
under investigation for allegedly storming the Capitol with the violent mob.

Rocky Mount Police Sergeant Thomas
Robertson and Officer Jacob Fracker from Virginia were charged with unlawful
entry
and disorderly conduct last month. Houston Police Officer Tam Dinh
Pham from Texas faces similar federal charges.

At least five
Seattle police officers
, a New York Police Department (NYPD)
officer, and a Philadelphia
police detective
are also under investigation for allegedly participating
in the Capitol riots.
