At least 8 civilians were killed and 24 others injured in multiple attacks on Baghdad’s Shiite neighborhoods, local officials say.
Three car bombs exploded simultaneously in different areas of the Iraqi capital’s northern neighborhood of Shula, killing six and injuring over a dozen others, police reported.
Two mortar rounds later struck the northern district of Chikok, killing two and wounding 10, security officials said.
No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks. For the past several years, Iraq has witnessed frequent outbreaks of deadly sectarian conflict, with Sunni insurgents targeting Shiites.
These killings came three days after 12 people died in a series of attacks in the capital, making it Iraq’s deadliest day this year since September. On October 20, twin roadside bombs exploded in Baghdad, and attackers shot and killed two police officers in a separate incident.
