A man who crashed his dirt bike lay injured for days before passing away

A DIRT bike rider found dead in remote bushland may have lay incapacitated in searing heat for several days before eventually passing away.

The man aged in his mid to late 40’s had been camping alone in the Back Yamma State Forest, about 25 kilometres south of Parkes, when he apparently crashed his motorbike, suffering serious injuries.

He was found at about 12.40pm today when a group of three adult dirt biker riders were driving down a fire trail in the forest and spotted the man’s bike laying in the bush, The Daily Telegraph reported.

They searched the area, finding the deceased man lying nearby, before contacting police.

Police from Lachlan Local Area Command said it appeared the man, whose family has not yet been notified of his death, had crashed several days ago, enduring temperatures in the high 30’s.

He had been riding by himself and had not been reported missing.

Detective Sergeant Steve Howard said it was evident that the man had survived the initial crash but due to his injuries he had been incapacitated, unable to access food or water.

“At this stage it appears he may have been there for some time before he’s passed away,” Det Sgt Howard said

“Who knows what the outcome would have been if he’d been able to get first aid on the spot.”

He said the tragic death was a timely reminder to anyone taking part in remote recreational activities to never go alone so that there is always someone to raise the alarm in an emergency.
