Federal Opposition Leader Tony Abbott has been confronted by gay rights activists while having dinner with a friend in a Melbourne restaurant.
When asked if a confrontation took place on Sunday night at a Lygon Street eatery, Mr Abbott confirmed the incident, but denied the suggestion he was forced to leave.
“I think people should be able to enjoy a quiet meal with a friend on a Sunday night in Lygon street,” Mr Abbott told reporters in Melbourne on Wednesday.
Six protesters reportedly surrounded Mr Abbott calling for marriage equality.
