Halloween is just around the corner and children are getting extra
excited about their costumes-and of course the candies they will get.
While parents are prepping up, police are advising them to be extra
vigilant regarding their children’s candies acquired from
trick-or-treating.

The Jackson, MS Metro Police Department recently posted a photo on
their Facebook page showing the psychoactive drug ecstasy, noting its
strong resemblance to kid-friendly treats.

Apparently, the new ‘look’ of ecstasy resembles colorful candies
children eat nowadays. Photos quickly going viral, with a message:

“If
your kids get these for Halloween candy, they ARE NOT CANDY!!! They are
the new shapes of “Ecstasy” and can kill kids through overdoses!!! So,
check your kid’s candy and “When in doubt, throw it out!!!” Be safe and
always keep the shiny side up!!!”

As a guide for parents, the LA Times has released a set of pointers to take note of:

1.) All fruit should be cut and examined.

2.) Homemade treats should come from only someone the children and parents know.

3.) Make sure candy comes in its original, sealed packaging.

4.) Anything with holes or that appears tampered with should be discarded.

5.) Look for tell-tale signs that a candy is laced with marijuana.

6.) The
packaging may look like a commercial brand candy but might have green
packaging, a marijuana leaf emblem or the word “medicinal” somewhere on
it.

7.) Drinks may also appear similar to sodas like Mountain Dew.

8.) Marijuana-laced candy includes goldfish and gummy bears.

Drug-laced candies are rare, but we can never tell. It is always safer to be extra cautious.
