Visitors to Arizona prison are being charged $25 to see inmates in a move believed to be the first of its kind in the U.S., it has emerged.

Relatives and friends of prisoners arriving at the jail have to pay the one-off ‘background check fee’ on their first visit.

On the department’s website, it declares: ‘All adult visitors applying on or after July 20, 2011 must pay a one time, non-refundable, $25.00 background check fee in accordance with Department Order 911.’

Campaigners are angry at the development, complaining that friends and family already have to pay large travel costs to get to remote prisons.

They argue it will put off relatives from visiting, which means convicts will be even more cut off from real life and become more likely to re-offend.

  1. Something stinks constitutionally about this. Right of association and all…

  2. The prison system is big business and people are being treated as slaves, commodities to be traded like stocks. Deport the illegal alien prisoners and do not charge money to visit the imprisoned. Wake up America and smell the corruption.

  3. What makes these fucks think they are not already in the cross hairs of some scopes already trained on them !!!

  4. WTF?

  5. In ohio the prisons are now owned by corporations. I get very upset when I hear all this election hype because I understand things are a lot further down the line than Ive heard more than a handful of politicians speak on, and the masses of them would vote for the corporations anyways. Not one ran on the line “I love the corporations and dont give a rats a** about America”. Ron Paul already said he wouldnt take dictorial power, but If i were elected I would have a small special forces detail, not go on tv that much and spend all my time visiting all these cities and arresting people in control that are in violation of the laws and abusing their powers.

    • I would start with visiting the FBI who refuses to do their job of investigating these criminals.

      • WHich makes them complicit.

  6. Prisons for profit once again.

    • they’re taking all this action because when shit hits the fan, And it will, they know they’re going to lose. One of the first things that will happen, is inmates will rebel, and there are more inmates than guards, when that happens, friends and family of inmates will foolow suit, and thier friends will follow. what are they thinking now, and when that happens assualt pricint thirteen will begin on all pricincts, and simultaniously langley, VA CIA HQ, then edgar hoover, FBI HQ. And sew shall they reap on !!

  7. Yet, the prison system has no concept of restoring the victim.

    • Lion that is bullshit restorative Justice is one of the only out of the box ideas thats working to humanize bad decision making, the consequences, and making reparation for harm caused to the innocent
      Vote Ron Paul 2012!!!!
