Army breaks ISIL siege on Iraqi troops

Iraqi army forces, backed by volunteer fighters, have managed to break a siege by ISIL Takfiri militants on hundreds of soldiers in an area of the western province of al-Anbar.

Army spokesman Lieutenant General Qassim al-Moussawi said on Sunday that Iraqi forces were able to liberate overnight as many as 400 troops who had been surrounded by ISIL terrorists three days ago in the Sijir area near the city of Fallujah, located roughly 69 kilometers (43 miles) west of Baghdad.

The Iraqi military had launched a major operation against the ISIL militants in the city of Fallujah earlier in the day.

Over the past few weeks, Iraqi forces have killed a large number of the Takfiri terrorists in their mop-up operations in the area.

The ISIL terrorists control large swathes of Syria’s east and north. The ISIL sent its Takfiri militants into Iraq in June, seizing large parts of land straddling the border between Syria and Iraq.

The Takfiri terrorist group has committed heinous crimes and threatened all communities, including Shias, Sunnis, Kurds, Christians and Izadi Kurds, during its advances.

Senior Iraqi officials have blamed Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Turkey and some other Persian Gulf Arab states for the growing terrorism in their country.
