An asylum seeker has been sent to prison after a fight in the Australian detention centre on Nauru on Monday night.
A spokesman for Nauru’s government says the asylum seeker appeared in court today charged over an altercation involving two other men in the island’s detention camp.
The man was already on bail after being accused of rioting late last year.
Nauru’s magistrate found the asylum seeker had broken his bail conditions.
The man was remanded in custody until April 24 when he will appear again for mention.
The magistrate ordered prison authorities to make special provision for the man’s medical needs.
He will also be provided with halal food while in jail.
