“The reason is simple … the values expressed by Mr Polis are at odds
with what we are about as a company and as Australians,” said managing
director of Momentum Energy, Nigel Clark, after cutting a four-year deal
with Mr Polis’s company.
“The situation in untenable to carry forward. When you read some of the
comment, it’s pretty startling.”
However, Mr Polis, who set up EnergyWatch with a friend when he was 27,
appeared unrepentant.
“These were jokes between friends,” Mr Polis said. “Have they
been taken out of context? Yes. Did I say them? 100 per cent … I’m not a
racist person. These comments have been made. Was there any hatred or hurt
behind them? No there wasn’t. I’m not like a neo-Nazi racist is what I’m
trying to say.”
