The mother, 26, was trapped in the van for about an hour.

Fire and Rescue NSW officers cut her free from the vehicle, before she was taken to Westmead Hospital with spinal, neck, leg and chest injuries.

The baby was taken to the Children’s Hospital at Westmead with head and abdominal injuries.

The father was taken to Westmead Hospital with minor injuries.

A police spokeswoman said the accident was being investigated by the Metropolitan Crash Investigation Unit, and the driver would be subject to mandatory drug and alcohol tests.
