Blast hits Syria’s oil pipeline in Homs

The incident occurred around 6:00 a.m. (0400 GMT) Wednesday in the violence-hit city.

The explosion sent up columns of smoke over the city, disrupting the supply of diesel fuel to Damascus and the southern region, SANA news agency said.

Last month, the armed groups also blew up a gas pipeline near the Syrian town of Rastan in the province of Homs.

Several gas pipelines have been targeted in the volatile state over the past months during the unrest that has for months engulfed the Middle Eastern country.

Syria has been experiencing unrest since mid-March 2011.

The West and the Syrian opposition accuse the government of being behind the violence, but Damascus says “outlaws, saboteurs and armed terrorist groups” are responsible for the turmoil, which it says is being orchestrated from abroad.
