Boy falls three metres down Sydney drain

A 10-year-old boy has survived a fall of more than three metres down a drain in southern Sydney.

Emergency services were called to Tavistock Reserve in South Hurstville after 7pm (AEDT) tonight, after reports that baby had fallen into a drain, a spokesman from NSW Fire and Rescue told AAP.

When they arrived they discovered the baby was in fact a 10-year-old boy, he said.

The boy had fallen into the drain after the metal plates covering it gave way, police said.

A paramedic climbed down a ladder and rescued the boy.

He was taken to Sydney Children’s Hospital at Randwick with a minor head injury.
