Brazilian president’s approval rating drops to 10 percent: Poll

Only 10 percent of the respondents in Brazil gave their leader a ranking of “good” or “excellent” in June, the survey said.

The poll was conducted by Datafolha and was published on Saturday by the Folha de S Paulo daily in Brazil.

The survey noted that the number of those who thought that Rousseff’s government was doing a “bad or terrible” job has increased from 60 percent in April to 65 percent in June.

Some 2,840 people in 174 cities across the country participated in the survey.

According to the survey, those polled were mainly upset about the rising unemployment in the country. Others were angry about the string of political and financial scandals involving their president and her government.

The latest results reflect the greatest drop in the popularity rate of a Brazilian leader since the fall of former President Fernando Collor de Mello in the early 1990s, Brazilian media said after the release of the poll results.

Rousseff has been struggling with several political issues for the past six months, most notably a corruption scandal at the state-owned Petrobras oil company.

She herself is not accused of doing anything illegal but because of her government’s connection with the scandal, the matter has had a negative impact on her career as president of the South American country.
