A 31-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after a 17-year-old boy was stabbed to death outside a pub.

The teenager, named locally as Jacob Woudstra, died shortly after the attack at The Shah, in Hastings, East Sussex.

Woudstra, who was found by shocked passers-by, had suffered severe injuries and was lying in a pool of blood.

The youngster was stabbed twice outside The Shah pub in Mount Pleasant Road

A Sussex Police spokesman said: ‘Police and ambulance services were called to the Shah public house in Mount Pleasant Road following reports that a stabbing had occurred.

‘Paramedics fought to save the boy who had been stabbed in the chest, but sadly he died.’

Pals Tweeted their tributes to Jacob, who studied at nearby Parkwood 6th Form college, in the hours after police announced his death.

Friend ‘Sambo’ Tweeted: “You was a top lad and an just an overall legend. All my love man xxxxx.”

Another friend, Tom Watson, wrote: “RIP Jacob Woudstra. £HERO.”

Paramedics arrived at the pub shortly after 3pm but were unable to save the boy, who is believed to have been drinking at the pub before he was set upon.

A spokesman for South East Coast Ambulance Service said: ‘Our clinicians treated a teenager after he received two stab wounds to the chest.

A man living nearby, who did not want to be named, said: ‘I was just having a cup of tea when all of a sudden police cars and ambulances were all over the place.

‘Word quickly went round that somebody had died. It is terrible. This is a really nice area and it is not somewhere you would expect something like this to happen.’
