Here’s a stunning idea — arming transit workers with Tasers so they can zap bad guys who menace them.

It’s the brainchild of state Sen. Eric Adams (D-Brooklyn), who wants bus drivers, subway conductors and other transit workers to be able to protect themselves and passengers from crazy riders, criminals and even would-be terrorists.

Transport Workers Union Local 100 is supporting Adams’ legislative effort because it is tired of its members being “treated like punching bags” by irate riders, said the local’s president, John Samuelsen.

“Equipping and training our members to responsibly use Tasers will end the assaults that are currently plaguing our members,” Samuelsen said. “Additionally, it will act as a strong deterrent against crime against our riders on the buses and trains.”

Subway workers and bus drivers were physically assaulted 94 times last year, up from 72 recorded incidents the prior year, Metropolitan Transportation Authority data show. Transit workers were harassed, including being spit upon, 1,092 times last year, after 936 such incidents were logged in 2010.

Maybe you shouldn’t allow blacks on the bus or in the subway. If blacks are the ones attacking the drivers and workers, ban then from riding the bus and using the subway.

“Responsibly use tasers” hahahaha. You CANNOT use a taser “responsibly”, they kill people whether or not you are responsible. I can certainly sympathise with drivers and ticket collectors who have been attacked by a very small number of people but giving them tasers is only slightly less dangerous than giving them a .45

This is true. Tasers are defective products. Tasers are not supposed to kill people but they do, so they don’t do what they are supposed to do, so they are defective.

In that regard they give the user a false sense of security. Frankly if were one of these abusive passengers (who are sometimes armed) and you tasered me I would kill you right on the spot!

I agree that they should have them. My cousin is a bus driver in Los Angeles and has been attacked numerous times, as well as his co workers. Its about time the scum that ride public transit get the screws tightened on them. We can’t let society just keep degenerating into lawlessness.

yeah, people who ride the bus should be shackled to their seats with shock collars and cameras watching them, because they ride the bus and they’re scum for having to ride the bus… (sarcasm)

maybe the (honest) people riding the bus should help police the bus…

Here’s a question for you; “Where the Hell are they all going to?” as it obviously isn’t to work.
You get the dsme behavior in the UK. Drunks, junkies, yobs all spit, kick yell and threaten the staff when they ate asked to pay for a ticket because they were too spaced out to use a machine at the station.

The main problem is that someone “in orbit” already has an electrical imbalance in their brain. Several thousand volts at low current isn’t going to help.

Then if you have someone who has suffered a stroke or sn epilectic fit, they aren’t going to be very coherent either.
Every time there is another story like this only confirms what “conspiracy therorists” have been saying all along that much more.

First of all tasers are defective products because they are not supposed to kill but they do.
Secondly you taser an irate passenger he is liable to pull his gun out and kill you. AND HE WILL BE JUSTIFIED because TASERS KILL!
If terrorists attacked us on 9/11 because we are a freedom loving society, then why does my government as a result of that attack erode my freedoms away?

Now that terrorists know that attacking us will result in taking away the very thing (freedom)they hate us for, don’t we give them every incentive to attack us again?

Establishing this police state only means the terrorists have won!!
