Brussels attacks: EU’s Federica Mogherini breaks down during emotional conference (VIDEO)

Mogherini, who was at a joint press conference with Jordanian Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Amman on Tuesday, said the terror attacks mark a “very sad day” for Europe, comparing the continent’s pain to the suffering experienced in the Middle East.

“It is… a very sad day for Europe as Europe and its capital is suffering the same pain that this region has known and knows every single day”, said the EU commission’s vice-president.

The Italian politician visibly tried to contain her emotions when discussing the latest attacks, but eventually decided to cut the conference short as she became overwhelmed.

After a brief embrace from Judeh, the two left the room at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs together.

Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS) has taken responsibility for the attacks on the Belgian capital which killed dozens and injured many more at Brussels’ Zaventem Airport and Maalbeek Metro station.
