BUSTED: Sen Ted Cruz Takes Cash From Big Oil For Climate “Science”

Susanne Posel (OC) : Greenpeace UK has released an investigation into Frank Clemente of Pennsylvania State University (PSU) and William Happer of Princeton University (PU) who were more than willing to take money from the coal industry in exchange for anti-climate change science.

Ted Cruz_USA_SP_OC_2015Jesse Coleman, activist with Greenpeace, explained that these tactics are literally the same as were used by tobacco corporations used in the past “to convince people of something that is just not true.”

Happer has recently appeared before the Senate science subcommittee headed by Senator Ted Cruz to testify on how climate change is not as dire as is being portrayed in the media and by 97% of all scientists across the world.

Clemente relentlessly stands beside his anti-climate science findings because he believes “that clean coal technologies are the pathway to reliable and affordable electricity, reduction of global energy poverty and a cleaner environment.”

Both Clemente and Happer discussed in email correspondence how to hide funding and donors to climate denier research; including the use of a funnel called Donors Trust, an organization that assists anonymous donations for governmental studies.

The Global Warming Policy Foundation (GWPF) is another avenue for climate denying science to get through informational review which can also be called “peer review” despite the fact that no one reviewing the paper is qualified to make that claim.

Previous investigations into Wei-Hock Soon, astrophysicist for the Harvard-Smithsonian Center (HSC), being paid by oil and gas corporations including ExxonMobil for climate denial science has recently come to light.

Soon’s work has been the cornerstone of climate denial by Senator Jim Inofe, the man who threw a snowball onto the senate floor claiming to have disproved global warming.

The non-climate scientist and favorite denier of oil corporations has received an estimated $1.2 million from industry giants such as:

• Koch Charitable Foundation
• American Petroleum
• ExxonMobil Foundation
• Texaco Foundation
• American Petroleum Institute

Richard Keil, spokesman for ExxonMobil, has commented on Bernstein by alleging that their 1980s science was simply a “preliminary stage’ of inquiry and that they have been aware for 27 years of the impacts of climate change.

Keil said: “We believe the threat of climate change is real and demands action, and we are taking steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions in our operations, help consumers reduce their emissions, and supporting research and participating in research into further emissions reductions.”

However, Keil denied ExxonMobil has been financing “those who deny the reality of climate change.”

One of the biggest corporations benefitting from denial science is ExxonMobil who was exposed earlier this year for knowing about the connection between their industry and climate change back in 1981, responded by spending nearly 30 years lobbying against it and promoting climate change denial.

Emails explain how ExxonMobil devised a way to fight against carbon taxes because the idea would hurt their profit margin.

Lenny Bernstein, chemical engineer and former in-house expert of climate change for ExxonMobil, wrote: “Exxon first got interested in climate change in 1981 because it was seeking to develop the Natuna gas field off Indonesia. This is an immense reserve of natural gas, but it is 70% CO2,” or carbon dioxide, the main driver of climate change.”

Bernstein stated in emails that when ExxonMobil considered the “carbon Bomb” the development of the south-east Asian gas field would become, they ignored the potentials and pressed forward with production.
