CAAP continues condemnation of Israel aggression

The Caribbean Against Apartheid in Palestine (CAAP) on Saturday continued its condemnation of Israel’s occupation of Palestine and aggression against its people. The organisation staged its protest action outside the United States (US) Embassy in Bridgetown, Barbados.

Secretary of CAAP Lalu Hanuman, who led the protest outside the Embassy, told the media that the venue was chosen because of the American government’s military and diplomatic support for the apartheid state of Israel.

Hanuman added that all the weapons Israel is using have come from America, a country which he said has been blocking UN Security Council resolutions against Israel.

“Clearly this is unacceptable. Israel is an apartheid state. It is important for us to stress the apartheid angle,” he said.

Hanuman, who two weeks ago presented a letter to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs requesting Barbados recognition of the state of Palestine, also indicated that it is important to note that Barbados, which took a lead opposing the apartheid regime in South Africa, is yet to recognise the state of Palestine.

Also in attendance at yesterday’s protest was David Denny, Secretary of the Caribbean Movement for Peace and Integration (CMPI). He affirmed that his organisation was standing in solidarity with the people of Palestine at this difficult time in their country’s history. Denny also demanded that the Government of Barbados establish diplomatic ties with Palestine.

Denny added that his movement is committed to playing a major role in educating people in the Caribbean about what is happening in Palestine. He called on the local media to spread the word to the people of the region about the ongoing Palestinian struggle against apartheid Israel and its settler-colonial regime.
