Car ‘Drives at Pedestrians’ in Dublin – One Injured as Driver Flees

A car has ploughed onto a pavement in Blanchardstown, Dublin, near Blanchardstown shopping centre, leaving at least one person injured.

One witness said it appeared the car was “driving at pedestrians” before it sped away from the scene .

She told Express.co.uk a child was struck by the car, which then accelerated away from the scene in the suburb of Blanchardstown.

Michelle O’Reilly said: “A BMW car mounted the path outside Leisureplex and drove at pedestrians down by Starbucks and Dante pizza restaurant, then striking a child, and then sped away from the scene.

“He was being treated by fire brigade while they waited on the ambulance to arrive.”

She said there was no time to stop the driver before they drove away.

Ms O’Reilly said: “No there was no time to try and stop it.

“It didn’t look like an accident to be honest but can’t tell to be sure, at the part where he drove there’s all bushes blocking the path from the one way road so I can’t see how it was an accident.”

Councillor David McGuinness told TheJournal.ie police are treating the incident “very seriously”.

He said: “It’s absolutely disgraceful. I got a call from family members who were at the centre and saw the commotion. The place is thronged with people and anyone could have been injured.

“Gardaí are going to treat this very seriously. This is terrible behaviour.”

The Garda Siochana, the Irish police service, has been contacted for details.
