Peter Nolan For the sixth year running, country superstars Carrie Underwood and Brad Paisley will bring their quick-witted charm and co-hosting talents to the 2013 CMA Awards. During Monday night’s (Aug. 12) broadcast of the CMA Music Festival, titled Country’s Night to Rock, Little Big Town revealed the hilariously charming duo as the hosts for this year’s upcoming awards show.
Moments before the revelation, the group, comprised of Karen Fairchild, Kimberly Schlapman, Jimi Westbrook and Phillip Sweet, teased a few other hosting alternatives, including Tina Fey and Amy Poehler (who co-hosted the Golden Globe Awards this year).
“How awkward would it have been if it was Jimmy Kimmel?” Paisley deadpanned to Underwood, after a balloon and confetti shower rained down upon them. She replied, “It would have been…awkward.” “We’re just sitting here.”
The award-winning group then launched into a mini-vignette featuring footage from three of Paisley and Underwood’s best skits over the years. One of those special moments included the opening skit of the 2011 broadcast, which included Faith Hill and Tim McGraw barbie dolls.
Country’s Night to Rock, an annual tradition to bring fans closer to their favorite artists, featured a wide array of performances from music’s biggest stars. Underwood, who opened the show, performed a rousing rendition of Guns ‘N Roses’ “Paradise City,” as well as her current single “See You Again” and a duet with Paisley on “Remind Me.” Meanwhile, Paisley also performed his own set, which included his most recent No. 1 hit “Beat This Summer.” Also featured on the show were Taylor Swift, Keith Urban, Miranda Lambert, Dierks Bentley and Kelly Clarkson (among others).
