Our hosts this week were the usual Matt and Severin (myself), but we also had a guest for our third slot, Joshua Hotchkin, From Iowa City CopBlock. Our top stories were Ademo’s incarceration and a 12 year old girl that was seen on video being slammed by a school cop. We get to those later in the show. We opened up the night with stories from my night out Copblocking with Allentown Copblock’s Rick Gonzalez.
Rick came on for a few segments to give his perspective on the night. It was quite an eventful one. Police kicked a woman out of her home at 12:30 am and made her walk, I helped with an injured deer, and we even took selfies with the police! Sadly the cops were not serving or protecting since they had decided to follow us shining lights in our faces. We attempted to file a complaint but was told “you will be fine” by the sergeant. They showed their violent and aggressive nature to all the world across YouTube.
Next we discussed the jailing of Copblock.org co-founder, Ademo Freeman. Ademo had expected this jailing, and in fact asked for it from the man in the robe. It was not that he necessarily wanted to spend 24 hours confined to a set location, but that was the option because he outright refused to PAY the 50$ they wanted to extort from him. Why? Because a man with a shiny badge says he changed lanes without a signal. No accident, no victim, no problem for the state to put you away. Its their way to send a message to those that have no money.
Next we discussed an Illinois police department that stopped using body cams because they were a pain. Minooka, Illinois police were given a huge gift. A company donated the body cams that were required by a state mandate. They even were given simple instructions on how to operate these simple cameras. The department claims that the public’s right and desire to see the footage upon request is too “burdensome”. In response to that burden, they have chosen to ignore the law and their public’s right to know, by suspending the program.
Next Matt brought us a video out of Portland Oregon. The video shows an officer punching a man that is strapped down to a hospital gurney. The full video and story can be seen HERE
In the final segment we did a flash round of stories back to back. The first was by Pete Eyre and was an official roll out of the new groups page. Its been revamped to include non Copblock groups, making it much bigger and more wide spread.
Who has heard of Virtual Reality? It’s real and it’s out now. Personally, I picked one up and they are great! So of course the police are gonna figure out a way to tarnish the experience. They have decided to use the technology to do fly-bys in towns and then go back in VR and “spy” on the unsuspecting citizens. Read the full story HERE
Finally, we discussed an outcry letter written by a former police wife about the epidemic that is domestic violence within the police. Its such a regular thing that they even have their own term for it in police reports. The full story is a must read. Check it out HERE
