Celine Dion cancels Athens concert due to health problem

Celine Dion revealed she has been diagnosed with Stiff Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder with features of an autoimmune disease, and as a result had to cancel her concert originally scheduled in Athens on June 9, 2023.

Specifically, with her announcement, the famous singer made it known that her spring European tour, Courage World Tour, which was scheduled to take place from February 24 to April 11, 2023, has been postponed.

She also announced the cancellation of eight concerts which were scheduled for the summer of 2023 (among them her concert in Greece on June 9, 2023). The concerts scheduled from August 26 to October 4, 2023 will take place as usual.

As she revealed with tears in her eyes in a video he posted on Instagram, she is dealing with the rare and incurable neurological disorder SPS.

Before the outbreak of the pandemic, Celine Dion had performed the first 52 concerts of the Courage World Tour, in North America, and stopped her tour in March 2020.

Since then, the famous performer is undergoing treatment to recover from serious and persistent muscle spasms that prevent her from performing live. Her medical team is constantly reassessing her condition and continuing her treatment.

The spring leg of the European tour will begin on March 6, 2024 in Prague and conclude on April 22, 2024 in London.

In summary, the concerts that were supposed to take place in the spring: February 24 – April 11, 2023, are rescheduled from March 6 to April 22, 2024.

Summer concerts from May 31 to July 17 are cancelled.

Concerts from August 26th to October 4th will be held as scheduled.

“I’ve been dealing with problems with my health for a long time,” said Dion on Instagram.

“And it’s been really difficult for me to face these challenges and to talk about everything that I’ve been going through,” she continued in the emotionally-charged video.

“Recently I’ve been diagnosed with a very rare neurological disorder called the stiff person syndrome which affects one in a million people.

‘While we’re still learning about this rare condition, we now know this is what’s been causing all the spasms I’ve been having.”

She added: “Unfortunately, these spasms affect every aspect of my daily life, sometimes causing difficulties when I walk and not allowing me to use my vocal chords to sing the way I’m used to.

“It hurts me to tell you today that this means I won’t be ready to restart my tour in Europe in February”.
