WASHINGTON (WLS) – A leaked document from the Justice Department intended for law enforcement officials describes the length of time major cellphone companies retain sensitive customer data, including text message details and content.

Wired magazine reported that T-Mobile keeps a list of users’ text message recipients for up to five years and ATT for up to seven years, according to the Department of Justice (DOJ) document dated August 2010.

Wired lists the retention periods of other carriers’ data, such as who keeps call detail records the longest (ATT: up to seven years) and post-paid bill copies the longest (ATT and Sprint: up to seven years).

Verizon Wireless is the only carrier that keeps text contents, although for three to five days.

  2. I never understood keeping or spying on what people type or say. I can’t remember what the hell I typed most times. I can’t remember what I said, and many days I change my mind. So how would keeping anything that people say or type be of any relivance? Makes no sense to me.

so that anything you say or type can be used against you, not in court, but as an enemy combatant. so they can come take you any time of day or night, without warning, and hold you indefinitely, without charges/attorney/bail or even any familial contact, for any reason they deem you to be a threat to “national security”. they want this situation for ALL Amerikan dissidents to gov’t actions and those that want to keep/restore the republic as defined by constitution and bill of rights. so YOU, being a threat to their criminal activities must be dealt with. this is done by monitoring your every conversation, text, email, etc. any electronic communication you make. every electronic purchase you make, so they can use your purchases of infant formula as proof that you are terrorist and threat, because you were CLEARLY going to use it to make an explosive device…… and because you chose to conceal your activity by doing it at 2am at wallymart instead of 5pm like the normal programmed citizen.

  3. Did you ever wonder why the Guberment gives free cell phones to welfare monkeys??

As stated, they track and record everything and every place you go. Get rid of them. LAN lines from different areas are very difficult to trace because TPTB never know when or who you might be calling or from where the call shall originate from.

    There it is.

    Bravo2……out

  5. I use a disposable phone. I do not give my name, address or anything else for that matter. I use a public untracked internet place to set it up not using my computer. I buy a new phone every 60 days when the minute expire or if it is 120 days depends on phone. New phone number also each time I dump the other phone. Anything to make the homeland security pigs job difficult.

  6. Dear ATT Wireless Customer Service – Could you please give me an extension on paying my September wireless bill. I’m using both of my cell phones in an effort to detonate a Pantex W88 thermonuclear device that I’ve buried in Washington D.C. and the damn thing won’t go off unless I can call the cell phone. By the way I’m really pleased with my new Samsung phone that the guy sold me at your store in Virginia. Very nice indeed. Back to my request – This is important shit. I’m trying to save America from the gang of soul-less, blood-sucking politicians who have taken over the the executive and legislative branches of our Constitutional Republic.
