CEOs threaten Obama over Obamacare

Leading CEOs in the United States have threatened to side with anti-Obamacare forces over the Obama administration’s “workplace wellness,” a report says.

The threats came despite major US corporations’ support for Obama’s healthcare reforms, Reuters reported on Saturday.

The reforms include a program that aims to decrease healthcare costs by reducing risk factors.

Some large employers were infuriated after recent lawsuits, filed by the administration’s Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC), challenged the program at Honeywell International and two smaller companies.

“The fact that the EEOC sued is shocking to our members,” said Maria Ghazal, vice-president and counsel at the Business Roundtable, a group of chief executives of more than 200 large US corporations.

“They don’t understand why a plan in compliance with the ACA (Affordable Care Act) is the target of a lawsuit. This is a major issue to our members,” she said. “There have been conversations at the most senior levels of the administration about this.”

The group members are set to hold talks with Obama over their concern in a closed-door session on Tuesday.
