Federal prosecutors are preparing charges against the surviving Boston Marathon bombing suspect, Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, 19, according to an April 21, 2013 BBC report.
The major news media outlet notes that if Tsarnaev is charged with trying to kill people with a “weapon of mass destruction,” he could be sentenced to death.
This information came not long after ABC News tweeted Sunday that according to law enforcement sources, Tsarnaev had awoken in the hospital and was answering questions from authorities.
The tweets noted he was “responding sporadically in writing to questions” asked of him and that he is being questioned about whether he is part of a terrorist cell and if there are other cell members. They are also asking if there are any other unexploded bombs anywhere.
The marathon bombing took place April 15 near the race’s finish line, killing three and injuring over 170 others.
Dzhokhar Tsarnaev‘s brother, Tamerlan Tsarnaev, 26, also suspected in the bombing, died Thursday night after a confrontation with law enforcement.

Dzhokhar Tsarnaev was discovered in a boat that was in the backyard of a Watertown, Mass. family’s home. He reportedly had a number of series injuries when recovered and was immediately transported to a local hospital.
