Only some 30,000 Moroccan tourists visited Egypt in 2015, Mahmoud said, adding that Moroccan tourist agencies requested that Egypt Air increases its flights between the two countries.

Mahmoud visited Morocco Sunday along with representatives of Egyptian tourist agencies and hotels to hold workshops and meetings with their Moroccan counterparts.

During the visit, Moroccan Tourism Minister Hassan al-Haddad said he would head to Egypt in March to sign a protocol with his Egyptian counterpart Hesham Zaazou to promote tourism between the two North African states, according to Youm7.

State-owned Air Cairo Company will fly charter flight from Saudi Arabia to the Red Sea resorts of Sharm el-Sheikh and Hurghada in March, Youm7 reported.

In December, several charter flights took off from Abu Dhabi to Sharm el Sheikh in efforts exerted by Egypt to promote tourism after wide-scale slowdown after a Russian plane crashed over Sinai Oct. 31., killing all 224 people aboard.
