There’s probably one in every attic, dumpster or neighbourhood curb: an old, forgotten and beat-up retro piece of furniture that is a shadow of its former self. So it takes a bit of skill and flair to transform these sorry specimens into something fresh, which is exactly what Athens, Georgia-based marketing student Christopher White does in his spare time.

We took notice over at Design Milk; Revitalized Artistry is White’s moniker for his refinishing business, transforming derelict “junk” into chic, signature pieces. He explains that
I love to find broken down, beaten up pieces of furniture and revitalize them to their once beauty and much more.

Looking at the “before” and “after” states, it’s hard to believe that this is the same piece of furniture, but it’s a testament to White’s careful craftsmanship in restoring these pieces.

Using a simple but complimentary colour palette of soft hues and contrasts, and keeping the original handles, White updates these mid-century modern finds into something more contemporary — but exuding quite a bit more character.

My definite favourite is this set of mid-century modern Danish dressers — love the geometric and colour pairing.

It’s great to see furniture that lasts, and can still be remade to fit with today’s tastes. More over at Revitalized Artistry’s website on Etsy.
