Child prostitute’s cries for help ignored

One of seven young girls lured into an alleged child prostitution ring cried out for help when a customer sexually assaulted her, court documents allege.

But no-one came to her aid, despite one of the two sisters who allegedly pimped her being in the next room.

The sisters allegedly preyed on the homeless girls and introduced some of them to illegal drugs before prostituting them to middle-aged men.

The ring in southwest Sydney operated for three years and included a girl as young as 12, who was sold for sex three times in three days, the court has been told.

Accused ringleaders Adrienne Garner, 22, and Tahlia Garner, 19, from the Liverpool area, and four alleged customers, aged in their 50s, appeared in local courts on Friday.

Police charged them with a total of 50 sexual assault, child sex and child prostitution offences dating back to November 2008.

Adrienne Garner’s three young children were in their premises on at least one occasion when one of the men had sex with a girl, police allege.

Both of the sisters and alleged customer Elia Toma, 55, applied for bail, which Campbelltown Local Court magistrate Robert Rabbidge refused.

The other alleged customers Bassam Darwich, 52, Trevor Weger, 51, and Rino Mura, 53, did not apply for bail, which was formally refused.

“Sue” was 13 and a virgin when she was living with the Garners and was twice sexually assaulted by Weger, it’s alleged.

When she objected to Tahlia Garner’s order to work as a prostitute if she wanted to continue living with them she was told “Just do it … You’re going to do it in life anyway”.

Police allege Weger arrived and sexually assaulted Sue in a bedroom as her cries for help went unanswered.

Two similar incidents allegedly happened days later at the Garners’ residence and at Weger’s residence.

The Garners’ solicitor Michael Blair told the court some of the victims were known ice users and all must have been complicit in the alleged prostitution if they continued to associate with his clients.

The youngest victim, known as “Maddison”, 12, allegedly met the Garners through a mutual friend at a refuge.

She became fearful when Adrienne Garner told her that she had access to firearms and knew bikie members, court documents allege.

Garner told the girl to “lie about your age” and “don’t stuff this up” when she was allegedly prostituted to Toma.

The court heard Toma lived with his wife, who was present in court, and two adult daughters in Cabramatta.

He was described by his solicitor John Young as a “hard-working family man”.

Police facts allege that in one instance Toma met Maddison on the street and she came into his car.

He asked how old she was and she told him she was 13.

Toma declined to have sex with her but the girl expressed a fear that she would get in trouble if she didn’t.

He allegedly told her she could either perform oral sex or masturbation on him, and she masturbated him for $10, police say.

The magistrate said the alleged facts showed “an extremely powerful case” against Toma.

“I have grave concerns that a 55-year-old man would be preying on very young female children,” Mr Rabbidge said when he denied Toma bail.

Mura will face Parramatta local court on May 31 and his five co-accused will appear before Campbelltown Local Court on July 18.
