Convicted NY fraudster sentenced in hit plot

NEW YORK (AP) — A convicted New York mortgage fraudster who then tried to get a key witness killed in revenge has gotten another eight to 16 years in prison.

Aaron Hand didn’t speak at his sentencing Monday in Manhattan.

The former president of AFG Financial Group Inc. was convicted in July 2010 of racketeering and other charges in a $100 million mortgage scam. The 40-year-old was sentenced in September 2010 to at least 8 years and four months in prison.

The Manhattan district attorney’s office says that while in prison, Hand planned the witness’ killing with an undercover investigator posing as a hit man.

Prosecutors say Hand told the investigator he wished he could be there when the witness was killed so he could “watch him suffer.”
