A man who was caught raping a 3-year-old girl has been killed with machine gun fire by police in a public execution.
A cheering crowd gathered as police held down Muhammad al-Maghrabi, 41, and opened fire with a machine gun at a public square in Sana’a, Yemen.
Executioners killed the man after he was caught raping and murdering three-year-old Rana Yahya Al-Matari.
Images released from the killing showed him on the floor with his hands handcuffed behind his back as people stand around him in a circle taking pictures and filming his death on smartphones.
This is the first public killing of its kind in Yemen since 2009 when a pedophile was killed for a similar incident involving an 11-year-old child.

Express reports: A soldier towers over him with a machine gun aimed at his back before he fires.
The rapist’s punishment was watched by hundreds of baying spectators in the city’s main square.Mr al-Maghrabi was brought to the spot by police who laid him down onto a white rug.
The crowd, of mostly men, took out their mobile phones to record the event.
Television stations also broadcast the event to viewers at home.
The last time that a Yemini was executed in this manner was 2009 when a man was punished and killed for raping and murdering an 11-year-old.
Yemen punishes murderers with a death sentence and beheading is another common punishment.
However, Sharia law does not specify what type of method can be used for a criminal’s punishment.
