First off, crosses are symbols of spiritual communion with God.
The Romans were brutal, but efficient.
When crucifying someone there is no need to use a cross when a straight post will work just as well.
It would be stupid, a waste of time and resources to put a cross bar on a tree trunk to crucify someone.
They may have been corrupt and bloody, but the Romans were not stupid or prone to pissing off energy and resources needlessly.
My great-great grandfather type Julius Caesar was there on the Appian Way when Rome crucified 6,000 revolted slaves and bandits.
You seriously think they wasted the time and resources to fit cross pieces into the post they crucified these people on?
When Rome was cobbling their slave religion together, they put Jesus on a cross because the people would respond to the symbol of the cross.
It was Rome which executed Jesus for sedition, trying to overthrow Rome’s Judian puppet government and kick the Romans out.
He never claimed to be equal to God.
The Romans put those words in his mouth 325 years after the murdered him, at the Council of Nicaea.

My brother said if you had a herd of swine handy and a deep body of water for them to drown themselves in when they got possessed by the demons, maybe you could cast them out.
