Deputy FM: Iran, powers to start implementation of N. deal in coming weeks

TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht Ravanchi declared early January as the date for the nuclear agreement between Tehran and powers to come into force.

“God willing, this job (implementation of the nuclear deal) will be fulfilled in the midst of (the Iranian month) Dey (December 22-January 20) and before the end of this (Iranian) month,” Takht Ravanchi told reporters in Tehran on Sunday.

Asked if Iran and powers plan to hold meetings before the implementation day, he said, “We don’t have any plans yet. A joint commission could be set up, but we don’t have any plans yet.”

Also Abbas Araqchi, another Iranian deputy foreign minister and senior negotiator, told reporters today that “God willing, the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) will come into implementation by the end of month of Dey”.

Iran and the Group 5+1 (the US, Russia, China, Britain and France plus Germany) reached a nuclear agreement on July 14 which included some confidence-building measures by Tehran and termination of sanctions by the world powers.

In a breach of the nuclear deal, Washington passed a law earlier this month affecting its Visa Waiver Program, which exempts nationals from 38 countries from having to obtain visas to visit the US but the American officials have promised to find a way to nullify the law.

After the move, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif underlined that the US administration is responsible for resolving its internal disputes over the nuclear agreement with Iran.

“We discuss issues with the US administration as the representative of the entire United States and we have nothing to do with the Congress,” Zarif said in a joint press conference with his Mongolian counterpart Lundeg Purevsuren in Tehran.

“The US administration has specific responsibilities on the international scene and it should settle its internal problems in any way that it knows,” he added.

Zarif referred to US Secretary of State John Kerry’s letter on the US Visa Waiver Program law to promise Washington’s efforts to nullify the Israeli-sponsored senate approval, and said actions and not words will guarantee the implementation of the nuclear deal.

“If the law is fully implemented, it will explicitly violate the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action,” he warned.

Kerry in a letter to Zarif underlined that the US is fully committed to the termination of the sanctions based on the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action and its undertakings based on the agreements in the JCPOA, according to Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaber Ansari.

Kerry has also stressed that the US administration will implement changes in the visa waiver program in a way that they won’t trouble other countries’ trade and economic cooperation with Iran, adding that the administration has numerous instruments which can stop implementation of the law within the domain of the president’s authorities, Jaber Ansari said.
