Dog Found Alone on Bus at Houston Convention Center Turned Mega-Shelter

A German Shepherd was found alone inside a crate on a bus transporting Hurricane Harvey flood evacuees to Houston’s George R. Brown Convention Center which has been transformed into a mega-shelter temporarily housing more than 8,000 displaced residents.

Harvey, as rescuers are affectionately calling the sweet, apparently healthy German Shepherd, was found sitting calmly inside a crate on Tuesday, his owners nowhere to be found, on a bus bound for the GRB Convention Center in downtown Houston.

Volunteers at the makeshift shelter will foster Harvey while continuing to search for his family.

It is unknown if he was placed on the bus alone intentionally or if he was accidentally separated from his owner.

Following 2005’s Hurricane Katrina, where many ordered evacuees refused to leave their pets behind, Texas lawmakers passed the PETS Act which guaranteed provisions would be made for pets and service dogs in the event of a similar disaster, in hopes that people would evacuate along with their pets.
