DOJ releases hypocritical statement on Ghislaine Maxwell verdict

Immediately after Jeffrey Epstein’s accomplice, Ghislaine Maxwell, was found guilty on five of the six charges in her sex-trafficking trial, the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) released a hypocritical statement falsely claiming that “no one, no matter how powerful and well connected, is above the law.” Despite the fact that the FBI has confiscated numerous CDs and hard drives from Epstein’s homes that potentially depict illicit activity between underage girls and powerful men, no further arrests have been made.

On Wednesday, Maxwell was found guilty of conspiracy to entice minors to travel to engage in illegal sex acts, conspiracy to transport minors with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, transportation of a minor with intent to engage in criminal sexual activity, and two counts of perjury. She was acquitted of enticement of a minor to travel to engage in illegal sexual activity. Conspiracy to commit sex trafficking of minors charges carry a maximum of 40 years, while the other charges she faced carry potential prison terms of five to 10 years.

During Maxwell’s trial, prosecutors presented the testimonies of only four women who accused Maxwell and Espstein of sexually molesting them as teenagers even though dozens, if not hundreds, of underage girls were reportedly victimized. In addition to Maxwell recruiting underage girls for Epstein, many of the girls were also hired to recruit other underage girls for Epstein and Maxwell.

Shortly after the announcement of Maxwell’s guilty verdict, U.S. Attorney Damian Williams released the following statement: “A unanimous jury has found Ghislaine Maxwell guilty of one of the worst crimes imaginable – facilitating and participating in the sexual abuse of children. Crimes that she committed with her long-time partner and co-conspirator, Jeffrey Epstein. The road to justice has been far too long. But, today, justice has been done. I want to commend the bravery of the girls – now grown women – who stepped out of the shadows and into the courtroom. Their courage and willingness to face their abuser made this case, and today’s result, possible. I also want to thank the career prosecutors of the Southern District of New York, who embraced the victims’ quest for justice and have worked tirelessly, day in and day out, to ensure that Maxwell was held accountable for her crimes. This Office will always stand with victims, will always follow the facts wherever they lead, and will always fight to ensure that no one, no matter how powerful and well connected, is above the law.”

However, the FBI raids conducted at Epstein’s homes, including New York and the Virgin Islands, revealed that federal investigators confiscated several hard drives and CDs with handwritten labels including the descriptions: “Young [Name] + [Name],” “Misc nudes 1,” and “Girl pics nude.” According to one of Epstein’s accusers, Maria Farmer, whose sister testified against Maxwell during her trial, Epstein secretly monitored and recorded illicit activities in his New York residence in order to blackmail prominent people.

Another victim who did not testify in Maxwell’s trial, Virginia Giuffre, alleges that she was coerced into sexual encounters with Prince Andrew when she was 17. During depositions given in 2016, she also accused Epstein and Maxwell of trafficking her to perform sex with powerful people, including former New Mexico Gov. Bill Richardson, wealthy financier Glenn Dubin, former senator George Mitchell, now-deceased MIT scientist Marvin Minsky, and modeling agent Jean-Luc Brunel, as well as “another prince,” a “foreign president,” a well-known “prime minister” and the owner of a “large hotel chain” in France.

None of the men named in the deposition have been charged with a crime or even sued in civil court in connection with the Epstein case. Giuffre has also accused attorney Alan Dershowitz of having sex with her while she was underage at Epstein’s residences.

In Maxwell’s trial, witnesses and flight logs depicted that former U.S. President Bill Clinton and Donald Trump repeatedly visited Epstein’s homes, but no accusers have stepped forward to implicate them.

During and shortly after the years of the abuse alleged by the four victims in Maxwell’s trial, Epstein paid Maxwell $30.7 million for procuring underage girls for him. Maxwell’s deceased father, Robert Maxwell, has been accused of working with Israel’s Mossad intelligence agency to find Mordechai Vanunu, the Israeli nuclear technician who was abducted by the spy agency in 1986 after he leaked secrets about Israel’s nuclear weapons program to the Sunday Times, a London newspaper.

Before Epstein’s death in his cell at the Metropolitan Correctional Center in August 2019, Epstein reportedly bragged to many people that was advising a whole assortment of foreign leaders who included Vladimir Putin, Mohammed bin Zayed, Mohammed Bin Salman, various African dictators, Israel, and the British, along with the American government.

By entering into a deferred prosecution agreement with the Justice Department to avoid prison time of their own and criminal convictions, Officers Tova Noel and Michael Thomas, who were assigned to Epstein’s special housing unit at the Metropolitan Correctional Center during the August 2019 overnight shift, admitted that they “willfully and knowingly” falsified documents showing that they had conducted required cell patrols. According to the terms of their deal, they were given six months supervisory release and required to perform 100 hours of community service.

Although the Justice Department claims that “no one, no matter how powerful and well connected, is above the law,” Epstein and Maxwell’s alleged blackmail targets currently do not face any criminal charges.
